Dear members of the Stata Community,

The Stata User Group Meeting we have been holding in Brussels the 6th of September 2016 has been a tremendous experience.
43 participants, 8 speakers, one tasty lunch, 2 well-deserved coffee breaks, 4 PC adapters, dozens of pictures, hundreds of claps, a few puns, many many questions…

Thanks to all our academic partners, whose organisations supported us all the way through with this project, we were able to receive the attendees and speakers in the marvelous venue of the Solvay Brussels School of Economics & Management. The Brussels school is well known and well ranked for its distinct orientation towards innovation and internalization.

A first Belgian Stata User Group Meeting it was, but it’s been definitely cosmopolite: academics, students, researchers and executives from our country but also from France, England, The Netherlands, Luxemburg. We even had the pleasure to hear speakers from the University of Bern, Aix-Marseille Université and Paris School of Economics; David Drukker, head of Economics at StataCorp, came all the way from the USA to offer a presentation on Treatment Effects.

This exceptional diversity amongst presentations and attendees led to a dense, high-quality conference with top-notch speakers, selected by our scientific committee: Sebastien Fontenay from ECON-IRES (UCL) and Vincenzo Verardi (FNRS, Unamur), whose illustration of Robust Methods by the Titanic’s situation will be remembered for sure.

The 3 pilars in using Stata, that are Data Management, coding estimation and regression and visualization helpers where covered, all of this across econometrics, biostats or social sciences’ environments.

We were all the more excited to receive spontaneous tremendous feedback, as this was our very first edition: the verbatim hereafter speaks for itself.

For those wanting to catch up, you will find also the PDF of the presentations that were held during the day. And for those who can’t wait to live a similar experience, come join us to the Swiss edition held by Ritme in Bern the 17th of November, 2016. You’ll find all the information here.

We won’t stop here. Next step? 2017. Paris. You have a whole year to work on the presentations you’d like to submit.
See you very soon, and thanks to all of you, Stata users!

The meeting was very usefull and I hope you'll organize it next year again

Lucas.VDH, researcher at the Netherlands Institute for Health Services Research

I can say that I found it quite useful to witness a wide range of experts applying an excellent program to the cutting edge questions in their fields. The lunch was excellent too in my opinion. So, overall was a quite useful day!

Rafael H, postdoc at the ULB

Encore merci.

Christophe E., researcher at the Université de Namur

Thank you very much indeed for an outstanding seminar yesterday! I enjoyed it very much.I learned so much yesterday, it was an exceptional, high-quality seminar!

Corina V., London School of Hygiene and tropical Medecine

Let me congratulate you for the organisation of the event. I think it was very useful and interesting. Most of the topics were of interest to me and it was a great occasion to be acquainted with the work other people are doing with Stata. I look forward to attending it again next year.

Jesus. M. I., economist
